Collaborative participatory wall space for guests at Falls Festival, Byron Bay. A Temporary Autonomous Zone.

A place for anyone to write about anything: inspired by ancient Roman and Pompeian walls, featuring all manner of political and personal, unsanctioned commentary, humour, sex, wordplay, insult, iconography, hagiography and promotion.

 A palette of raspberry and strawberry cream was chosen for the background. Pens were available in white, pink, red, black, and chrome, with 10mm and 18mm diameters.

Guests checked in at the pen bureau to receive ink mops and the Write Here Write Now Manifesto, an ethos for positive participation. Artists Tory Bauer and Mylee Grace wrote text on the wall and staffed the pen bureau, demonstrating the usage of ink mops.

Paste-ups were added to the wall daily over three days: Roman and Greek marble statues, Fly Agaric mushrooms (Amanita muscaria) and smiley flags. Homage was made to Vivienne Westwood, a significant artist, cultural icon and activist.

The writing ranged from banal to philosophical, and collaborators enjoyed the simple act of writing as an empowering participatory act in a public space.
