2026

SURF HOTEL celebrates its deep connection to Torquay, the Surf Coast, and the foundations of Australian surfing culture. Art at Surf Hotel amplifies these connections. From the 1960s to the present, what happens in Torquay resonates throughout the surf world. Surfing has been the catalyst for creativity fuelling the region for more than 50 years.

Curated by Andy Mac of Amac HQ, Art at Surf Hotel is a cultural project rooted in place, family, and surf heritage. Andy’s process began with archival research and centred on close engagement with artists in the surfing community, keepers of the stories, and pivotal figures at the heart of Torquay’s creative surfing legacy.

The collection features more than 90 artworks and surfcraft throughout the hotel, by 20 contemporary Australian and Surf Coast artists, including champion surfers, shapers, writers, painters, filmmakers, potters, photographers, and emerging voices. Special commissions sit alongside archival works and contemporary pieces that tell stories of people and place.

From Gerry Wedd’s biographical Claw Pot to Peter Crawford’s carpark scenes at Bells, Art at Surf Hotel showcases work by artists deeply embedded in surf culture, offering an insider’s view of Surf Coast iconography and character.
