Up beyond the clouds, where the air is crisp and the misty mountains rise, lies the wintery plantations of Lugu - the birthplace of Dong Ding. Here, at an elevation of 1100m, the bitter cold slows the plant's metabolic rate, forcing it to hoard nutrients and intensify its flavour.

But the makers of this oolong were not content with mere intensity. They took it up an extra notch by applying a light-medium roast finish. And the result? A tea with many layers of complexity, each one more delightful than the last.

There is no smokiness to be found here, for only a subtle roast was applied to this spectacular season. Instead, the heat from the finishing drum lends a hint of warmed walnuts and toffee to the ripe rockmelon notes that are iconic to this Qingxin sub-varietal.

As the flavours intertwine on the leaf's first contact with hot water, they burst forth in a symphony of taste and aroma, luring the unsuspecting passerby into complete surrender. Truly, this oolong is a masterpiece of the tea-making craft, an exquisite blend of science and artistry that will leave you breathless.
